James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him

This verse reminds me of King Solomon's dream when God came to him in a dream and God offers to give him whatever he wants. That's a pretty big offer from God. Solomon asks for wisdom and it pleased the Lord that it was wisdom that Solomon was seeking and not riches. He gave Solomon an abundance of wisdom, just as the verse above say's, He gives generously to all who ask. I think it's more of your heart being in the right place, no seeking out personal gain, but asking for wisdom which is beneficial to all.
